dragons will be able to join us today or were alive it's not I hope this will be a great recording for everyone later I'm going to go ahead and get started and if anybody joined us that's great today I will be reading a story called family it is bilingual story but I will be ready in just in English today this is actually not work when you book it earned the international laugh in a book of work and the author is Diane Gonzales Bertrand illustrations are by Pauline Rodriguez Howard here is our title page now when we're reading J I really want us to think about the main character Daniel in the story I think about how you would describe Daniel how you would describe Daniel and we're going to read and we're going to see if oil changes if it's feelings change by the end of the book Regency at sometimes when we work together my father like to tell me family stories I listened but I didn't really care sometimes I even felt board what to do. will have to do with me one night during supper my father told us this summer they'll be a family reunions in San Antonio with family scattered across taxes some live another state some even live in Mexico can you imagine Daniel La Familia Gonzalez all in one place I wasn't excited like my father I just bet this reunions would be nothing but old people sitting around telling old stories there wouldn't be anything for boy like me to do I would have been happy to have stayed in King instead I had to ride play my big sister's for for long hours in the back seat of our truck finally we reached the park in San Antonio as we got out of the truck to old people walk to meet us set yourself as you're listening now starts thinking about how you would describe Daniel our main character how you would describe how he's feeling hey if you're joining son Daniel my father told a woman in a flower dress and my two daughters Nelda and Josey she kissed my sister is this is your great-aunt dad said she is the one who invited everyone to this picnic geography alarm tickets to meet the others everyone sat at picnic tables under a large covered area she showed us a big poster with seeing all the family names Dallas Martinez Bella McCray this is how we know the difference and weighs less than and stuck a name tag on my t-shirt a red badge means Benito Gonzalez was your grade grandfather a lot of people I didn't know where red tags to I would look at them and wonder how can he be a Gonzalez he doesn't look anything like my dad give every person a ticket for a raffle to I stuck my hand in my pocket and thoughts what will I do all day so now when I hear Daniel thinking to himself what will I do all day that makes me think about Daniel and what he must be feeling right now I would say that started this view this story Daniel is just feeling he doesn't want to go to this when he was stuck in between us sisters on the car ride he already is wondering what are we going to do all day she's bored being around all of these people he doesn't know so if you are listening right now again go ahead and type in are you thinking you're feeling how you would describe him right now at least there was a not to eat brisket sausage fried chicken and potato and beans potato salad lettuce and tomatoes pickles and jalapenos they were apple and cherry pies big white cake with Gonzales written on it and blue frosting while we ate the Mariachis arrived one Mariachi stood in front of the other musicians and sang Mexican songs Tio Manuel sing with Mariachis to that's when I remembered my father's story of how to manual used to sing with a band Mexico one table of people clapped Wendy Emmanuel pulled up a blonde haired boy to sing the next song there he stood in his baseball cap green t-shirt and cut off jeans singing like a mariachi I'm clapped when the boiled allow Greedo in the middle of the song just before the Mariachis left and the Mariachi singer dance next king family picture my father sisters and I stood with the family that descended from Benito Gonzalez there were so many of us in the picture that I could barely see the woman holding the camera I'm being a page and I'm thinking about my own family reunions when my baby family gets together and takes pictures and remembering how I felt reading from the perspective I think at this point he is annoyed by all of this he's had to go to this reunions drive at their sisters he doesn't know very many people there he's bored he's annoyed that I think he's feeling now but then when we are reading a story a character can change their feelings can change to so let's keep reading and see if anything changes or Daniel afterwards someone raise the big pinata High into one of the trees a line of children took turns trying to break it the boy and the green t-shirt finally cracked open a big hole everyone crawled on the ground handfuls of candy I was sitting under a tree pulling grass out of my candy when that boy and a green t-shirt. Beside me we try some gum for sour ball he asked after we made the trade he said my name is Brian I live in Dallas and Daniel I live in Kingsville later he showed me his skateboard and we took turns fighting in the parking lot then I showed him my new baseball glove grab one out of his mother's car and you play catch we were hot and sweaty 20 ago Gala called out Sandia you'll follow and Tio Manuel have laid newspapers on the table and cut up watermelon the song via was cold and sweet Brian I spit out seeds at each other's feet each of us ate three pieces who's this my father asked me this is Brian he's a boy been playing with my father laughed and said he's your cousin too I looked at Brian and he looked at me all right we both said and slapped her hands together in a high five wow how do you think Daniel feels if you want you can type your ideas in Facebook right now whether you're on a phone or tablet or computer feel free to type in how you think Daniel is feeling at this point in our story remember we're going to pay attention and see if he changes by the end of the story change if you. I got the bed cover a DJ played music many people dance together the little girls blue bubbles that floated around the dancers and popped up on them Brian and I watched all the teenage girls run away as Bo Lalo started asking ladies to dance hi. Hi. Now then Jesse said run behind Brian and me dad always said that you allowed to dances like someone from an old movie what if he wants to dance with us Brian I laughed at my silly sisters and we laughed more when Brian point is in rock my mother is Dancing with you a Lalo on this page I was reading that Ryan laughs a couple times at his sisters and that was a friend Brian so that's making me start to think that now near the end of the story Brian is starting to feel happy so I might describe Daniel now as a happy boy so I'm she keeps thinking why does that change used to be bored and annoyed but now he's happy what happened that made him change I see some students online here so they're saying that maybe at the end we'll see a change think that's a good prediction Let's Dance the family reunions went on until dark Brian and I hunted for digitized make music on Blades of grass and had a sword fight with pieces of the pinata we ate more BBQ watermelon and pieces of the Gonzalez family cake I even got a g on my second just after the DJ he was about to play the last song Dil Lalo got on the microphone we all come from the same trunk of a family tree are grandparents Ramon and Teresa produce their six children children and grandchildren we must not forget that all of us are branches of a strong tree Viva La Familia Gonzalez everyone cheered Brian even taught me how to a great job now everyone should get out the raffle ticket to see who wins the big prize go lala told us he reached into a silver bucket she read out number 451 I couldn't believe it the number on my ticket was 451 I shipped healed out of hands and gave he gave me a big framed picture of my great-grandparents Ramon and Teresa Gonzalez Brian and I had to say goodbye he told me to come to Dallas I told him to come to King we even Thomas to write letters to each other as I sat in the back seat of the truck with my sisters I thought about the reunions and my family we were all part of the same family La Familia we lived in different places and some had different names but we were all connected and I was the lucky one who got to hold that connection in my arms all the way home remember we're thinking about Daniel how would we describe him how would we describe his feelings and how did they change it so you can type any last ideas I see a few students for online with meeting for that and I'll go ahead and summarize we are the end of the book and I think that really what made Daniel change and his feelings change in this book was that he made a friend even Brian with his cousin Brian also became his friend and once he had a friend at the family reunions he felt much happier and so that made him go from nobody with his family to Happy and having fun with his new friend Brian thank you everyone for joining me today I will read again on Facebook on Thursday at 1 I have another story picked out for Thursday so I hope do you want to join me again Thursday try next Facebook live reading have a good afternoon everyone
